“If you hate your parents, the man or the establishment, don’t show them up by getting wasted and wrapping your car around a tree. If you really want to rebel against your parents, out-learn them, outlive them, and know more than they do.”
My parents did the best they could with the tools they had and the lack of support and education available.
However, I have no excuse not to be better than them. I believe they expect that of me and gave me everything they had to equip me to be curious and a constant learner.
The wastage of life we see with young people getting drunk, wasted and being reckless is not cool. It’s not rebellion either. It’s selfish and foolhardy and a complete waste of the potential you had by being born.
Being better than your parents is your duty and your responsibility. It would be great if we could instil this idea of cool at a much younger age. It would give more kids the chance to show us what they can really do.
